Another Project Finished!

I don’t know about you, but I find that there is nothing more satisfying than crossing another item off your “to do” list! I just finished a commission for this baby set, I don’t often knit baby clothes and always forgot how quickly they knit up and how tiny they are!!

Baby Sweater & Hat

I usually have a minimum of 10 to 12 projects planned at one time and they all tend to buzz around in my head sending me a little wacky trying to keep them all organized! The whole waking up at 3am trying to decide what to work on next had to stop, so I recently decided to keep a list of the 4 to 5 items I would focus on each week and weekend. For example, Monday to Friday, I will work on Project 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5; Saturday & Sunday, I will work on 3, 5, 7, & 9, & so on. My current list takes me up to the end of June and so far, this system is working really well, is keeping me on track, AND I get to tick things off the list!! If I finish the list for the specific time period, I allow myself to start something new, so it’s great motivation to keep at it!

How about, how do you stay organized and motivated?

“J” is for Jewelry Box!

Jewelry Box

The next entry for my “A” to “Z” Knitting Challenge, “J” is for Jewelry Box, is complete!  I made a really lucky find for this one! This little heart shaped jewelry box was a tremendous bargain at my local thrift store and makes the ideal platform for a knitted decoration as well as the perfect storage place for some of my knitted earrings from “E” is for Earring!

Only three more to go and I am half way through the challenge list, actually much faster than I expected! I will be posting “K” is for Kite this weekend, so stay tuned!

“I” is for Inchworm!

Looking back over my “A” to “Z” Knitting Challenge list, I was horrified to see that I had decided that “I” was for Inchworm.  Seriously, who in their right mind chooses to knit an inchworm?! I was very tempted to cheat and come up with another item for this letter, but I knew I would hate myself for that decision.  So after much soul searching and luckily, a spark of imagination, I am very happy to present “I” is for Inchworm! This little guy is happily measuring his way through a garden abloom with Marigolds searching for the largest one!

I knit a cover for a small canvas using two shades of Lion Brand’s Shawl in a Ball, (one of my favourite new yarns, see this month’s newsletter!) and used some of the colours from my Dollar Store mini yarn find for the Marigolds and the worm.  I am so happy with this project and am very thankful that I stuck with my original plan!  Next up is “J” is for Jewelry Box!

And this is why I love my Dollar Store!!

60 little mini balls of yarn in soooo many colours for only $24.00 (& that’s Canadian dollars, so only about $18.00 for those of you in the US)!!!!! Half are 100% cotton and half are 100% acrylic. It’s very fine yarn and remarkable quality for the price, and 40m per ball, 2400 metres in total, perfect for all those little projects! Oh Happy Day!

In the Beginning

I started MurisKnits just over two years ago and it has been quite an exciting adventure building the business and developing the ideas, patterns and strategies for moving forward. I found myself pondering how the whole experience began and thought it would be a fun story to share.

“A” to “Z” Knitting Challenge – “H” is for Hat!

Another one of my “A” to “Z” Knitting Challenge items is complete! I am super happy with this one, not only is it the first hat pattern I have ever designed, but I also created the mosaic stitch pattern, and I knit the whole thing on double pointed needles! Crazy as it sounds, I have never knit anything on double pointed needles in my over 40 years of knitting!

So, that’s two more items I can cross off my challenge lists, knitting something on double pointed needles is one of the items on  my Knitting Goals for 2017. I have attempted knitting on dpns many times but found it awkward and uncomfortable, so instead of sticking with it, I either avoided patterns using dpns or converted them to straight needles.  This time I stuck with it and I am slightly embarrassed to say that I really enjoyed it once I got over the beginning awkwardness!  I am looking forward to doing more with dpns and have already started the 2nd hat using solid colours to make the mosaic pattern more defined.

Next on the “A” to “Z” Challenge is “I” is for Inchworm. I have a really fun idea for this one so please stick around to see the results.  It might be awhile as I am working on multiple other projects as well. It is impossible to knit only one thing at once! Well, isn’t it???!
